Transport and trains in Sardinia. Sardinian Railway consists of 4 main lines and covers over 1036 km of railroads. These 4 lines are handled by Italian National Railways (Ferrovie dello Stato – Trenitalia). There is also a secondary railway covering 202 km of railroads and handled by ARST S.p.A.. This society also handles other 404 km of railroads that get activated only during the summer and upon request.
